An Annapolis, Maryland-based influencer, Lauren Creekmore-Peabody writes the lifestyle blog LikeToKnow. It and highlights fashion and cosmetic items. In celebrating her 27th birthday weekend, Lauren Creekmore-Peabody treated herself to wine, along with a rejuvenating Bentonite clay mask.
Formed of volcanic ash that has settled, Bentonite clay is found in large quantities in the region surrounding Fort Benton, Wyoming, and is the same type of soil as the famous Montmorillonite clay of Montmorillon, France.
When used as a skin care product, Bentonite clay is known for high absorbency and is effective in removing sebum, or oil, from the surface of the skin. In addition to removing impurities, it can ease acne breakouts that have become inflamed.
While each Bentonite mask product has specific instructions for use, the actual powder can also be mixed with water into a thick paste that is applied directly to the face. This paste should be left on the face for 20 minutes before washing it off, a process that can be done as often as three times a week.
Bentonite’s uses extend beyond the face, with some people using the clay to cleanse and detoxify specific areas of the skin, from the feet to the armpits. It is also a remedy for the severe rash and itching associated with poison ivy.
